New Job and Beyond

MarriedLife

Yes, it has been a while since I have updated the blog. I do hope to make it a more regular thing now. I think that there might be some coming changes for this married couple that will make for decent blogs.

The first big change is one that you may have heard about; my new job. The job hunt has been very slow, but after over half a year since graduating from Kennesaw State, I start on Monday with a company called MedAssets that is based in Alpharetta, GA. After one big interview at the company, and another telephone interview, I got a call from the company offering me a position with the company. I am extremely excited to be working with a company that seems to be growing like MedAssets. My position will be a new position in the company and I am very fortunate and blessed that they were looking for someone who is entry level to fill the position. My official title is Data Processing Specialist, but I actually do not have much of an idea what I will be doing beyond database programming for their medical billing side of business. Jenna and I are very happy to be moving forward, and are wanting to look at the next steps in our married life.

Before I start talking about what is next for us, I do want to say that I am very sad to be leaving Borders. For the past 2 1/2 years, I have been an employee at Borders Books here in Dunwoody, and I am grateful for the chance to have worked with such great people who have become such great friends (or already were great friends). I will miss my coworkers at Borders, and can’t imagine a better work family. I loved the work at Borders and I hope success for everyone there.

I guess the next steps for Jenna and me is going to be a house purchase. Jenna is very ready to start home hunting, and I am ready to have a home that is ours. We have to look in this northern Atlanta area to stay close to Alpharetta, and we have found some very affordable homes not too far away from my work. Its a big decision for us and we have no clue what we are doing, but I think with a little help, we will find the place that is perfect for us. The only major concern is that our lease for our apartment will be up in October, and we need to decide before then what we will be doing.

I guess after that is thinking about babies, but that is another post…

Here is a video that Jenna and I made a few years ago, and figured I would post it again.  Its cheesy, but relevant.  Enjoy!

Wrestling Mania

Entertainment

Anyone who knows me (and lets face it, if you are reading this, you aren’t a stranger), will know that I have been a fan of wrestling ever since James got me into it several years ago.  We did it all.  We watched pay-per-views, we had online e-federations, my parents took us boys to see WCW Monday Nitro more than once, and we conducted our own trampoline wrestling league (see Ben Trice’s post here).  Jenna has also gotten into wrestling with us (watching any sport with James is infectious).  She has learned all the moves that James and I could teach her and has watched a ton of WWE with us, mostly last year around this time.  We also watched WrestleMania last year, the biggest PPV event that WWE holds.

WrestleMania XXV

WrestleMania XXV

Well, it is that time of year again, and wrestling fever has landed at Glenlake.  James found a Playstation 2 wrestling game that can be used to simulate matches (do I smell another e-fed?).  It hasn’t come in yet, but it looks promising.  That is just the beginning, though.  We decided to get WrestleMania again this year and everyone has asked for the day off tomorrow, so we are set to watch the 25th anniversary of the big show!  But does the wrestle mania end there?  Oh, no.  We purchased tickets a few nights ago to the WWE Monday night RAW that is coming to Atlanta on April 13.  Jenna has never been to an event, and James, Austin, and I haven’t been since High School.  The RAW in Atlanta is the annual draft event, where all of the wrestlers have a chance of being traded to a different roster that the WWE separates into the different shows.  It is an extended show and will be more talking than a normal show, but should be great fun.  We are sitting in the nosebleed section, but we will be holding signs.  Ah, good times.

Here’s a quick clip that many have seen before from our time of wrestling in the TWF.  I need to get more of those old matches digitized.

Blogging vs. Micro-blogging

Communications

Twitter LogoRecent, I have been doing a lot of posting on the micro-blogging website Twitter.  It is a good way to put out thoughts without having to write a full blog.  It is also a great way to consistently keep up with friends.  I enjoy being able to log in to Twitter and see what friends, acquaintances, and random other posters are doing during the day without the clutter of Facebook.  It is one more way to feed my need to be constantly connected.

Funny enough, I saw a post on Twitter that raised the question of whether micro-blogs (the short, text-messaged sized posts) are becoming more important than actual blogging.  And again, funny enough, here I am blogging about it.  I am not sure how I feel about the topic, but I do know that I keep up with with my Twitter account much more than I keep up with my blog.  It is much easier to post a short message to Twitter than sit and write a long blog.  I am not sure what exactly that says about me, though.  Does it say that I am lazy, or does it say that I like to stay connected more than blogging allows?  Which form of communication allows more information to be passed?  With multiple posts a day, does micro-blogging get more information out, or do longer normal blogs let you say more?  I feel that with the fads that cross the internet, different forms of communication become more popular at different times and some fade into the background (like instant messaging).  So this raises the question of whether micro-blogging is just a fad or if it has long-term possibility as a communication medium.  Personally, while I love the concept of micro-blogging, I do believe that it is something that will pass, if not entirely away, then into another form.  I do not believe that the Twitter format of micro-blogging will be a permanent thing, just as Twitter pulled its format from status updates on sites like Myspace and Facebook.

So I ask you, what do you think?  Is Twitter more important than blogging?  Will Twitter be  around long-term in its current form?  Let me know.

Headed to St. Simons Island

Vacation

It has been a long weekend at Borders this weekend.  We are selling all of our CDs and DVDs at 50% off and our store was packed all weekend.  I worked all three days (for which I was grateful), including closing at 11 on Thursday night and being back at 9 on Friday morning.  Saturday and today were very busy, and had me and everyone else running all over the store.  We have been so busy that we haven’t had a chance to get everything out of the back and onto the floor, so we did a lot running back and forth.  I have to say, though, without the support of my awesome co-workers and the management (yes, including James),  my job would be so much harder and not nearly as enjoyable.  I actually enjoy my time at work, and while I am ready to find a job in computers, I couldn’t imagine a better work environment in a retail setting.  I truly feel that all of the management look out for the employees as much as possible, and I have made true friends at Borders.  Having said all of that…

ssilighthouseI am extremely ready to go to St. Simons Island this weekend!  My parents have planned a trip for us for this Thursday through Sunday.  Jenna and I are going to drive down to Thomaston on Thursday morning and ride with my mother to St. Simons.  Austin and my father are flying down later that day because Austin has a test that morning.  He has a very busy week with a lot of tests and work.  I feel bad for him, but he will really appreciate the vacation.  Jenna and I are going to take Bailey down there with us, and are excited about getting out of Atlanta for a little while and spend time with my family.  It has been a while since I have been down there, and have so many great memories from time spent on the island.  I will do my best to post some pictures when I get back from here:

Kooza!

NightOut

Last night, Jenna and I went to see the Cirque du Soleil show called Kooza that is in town at Atlantic Station.  It was an amazing night!

Atlantic Station

Atlantic Station is a very nice place on its own.  There is good food, shopping, and entertainment all in one place.

After forgetting to print out our tickets, and walking to the box office to have them reprinted (which was a very nice thing for them to do), we ate at the Geisha House in Atlantic Station.  It is a Japanese and sushi restaurant, and the food was wonderful.  The service was top-notch, and left us absolutely nothing to complain about.  They had a special menu for Kooza ticket holders, and we took advantage of it.  It included three courses and each was better than the last.  The sushi was the best I have had.  We really enjoyed each other’s company at dinner.  Then came Kooza…

Kooza really was like going to a very well-cheorographed circus.  The stunts that these people could do were amazing!  There was an underlying theme to the show of a boy on a journey, but each single performance seemed to top the last in terms of difficulty and jaw-droppingness.  It was a show that I would recommend to anyone.  We came away very pleased.

My favorite part by far was the wheel of death.  The two performers would get the wheel moving, then jump on the outside and flip, jump rope, and spin.  Amazing!

It was a great night and I enjoyed every minute of it with Jenna!  I hope we can have many more like it!
